Museum Hosts Event on the Resolutions of the 8th Congress of the New Azerbaijan Party and the Day of Restoration of Independence

On 16 October 2026, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan hosted an event organised on the initiative of the Sabail District Organization of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP). Students of the Azerbaijan Finance and Economics College under the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) also attended the event. Discussions focused on the tasks arising from the resolutions of the Party’s 8th Congress and the historical and political significance of the restoration of Azerbaijan’s state independence.

Mukhtar Naghiyev, Chairman of the Sabail District Organization of YAP, outlined the key priorities established at the Congress and the tasks ahead. He noted that the goals and priorities set out in President Ilham Aliyev’s address to the Congress would guide the Party’s future activities.

Bahman Karimov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor and Chair of the Museum’s Primary Party Organization, highlighted the significance of the Constitutional Act on State Independence, adopted on 18 October 1991, which established the legal foundations of independent Azerbaijani statehood.

The event also addressed the role of National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s return to power in 1993 in ensuring political stability and strengthening state institutions. Particular attention was given to the importance of the “Contract of the Century”, signed on 20 September 1994, in consolidating the country’s economic independence and expanding its international economic relations.

Bahman Karimov also spoke about Azerbaijan’s achievements under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the historic victory in the 2020 Patriotic War, the liberation of Shusha, and the full restoration of the country’s sovereignty following the local anti-terrorist measures conducted in September 2023.

The discussions also covered reconstruction and development efforts in the liberated territories, the implementation of the Great Return Programme, and the development of social infrastructure.

In conclusion, the importance of safeguarding state independence, promoting national and spiritual values, and educating younger generations in a spirit of respect for Azerbaijan’s traditions of statehood was emphasised.
