In connection with the declaration of 2026 as the Year of Urban Planning and Architecture in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan organised an educational programme for students of Baku European Lyceum, featuring an interactive session, a quest quiz and a master class.
During the interactive session, Ganira Gafarli, Chief Specialist of the Museum’s Department of Innovation and Educational Programmes, introduced the students to the historic building housing the Museum, the palace of the prominent philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev. Particular attention was given to the architectural features of the building, its interior and exterior design, and its significance in the architectural history of Baku.
The programme continued with a quest quiz dedicated to Taghiyev’s palace, organised under the guidance of Farida Shamsi, Head of the Department of Innovation and Educational Programmes, with the participation of department staff members Ganira Gafarli, Aynur Babayeva, Ulviya Niftaliyeva and Kubra Dadashova. Through interactive questions and tasks, the students tested their knowledge and deepened their understanding of Azerbaijan’s historical and architectural heritage.
The programme concluded with a master class involving Nigar Ahmadli, Chief Specialist of the Department. The students painted plaster figurines modelled after the Maiden Tower, demonstrating their creativity while learning more about one of Baku’s most prominent architectural landmarks.
The event aimed to broaden students’ knowledge of urban planning and architecture, foster their interest in Azerbaijan’s historical and architectural heritage, and promote awareness of the importance of preserving and promoting this heritage.
