The 6th International Symposium on “Historical Sites and Monuments” was held on 4–5 September 2026 in Basgal and Sulut, Ismayilli District, Azerbaijan. The symposium was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Fazil Osmanov, a distinguished Azerbaijani archaeologist and Doctor of Philosophy in History.

The symposium was organized in a hybrid format by the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Miras Public Association, Aydın Adnan Menderes University, and the YOCOCU Association.

Researchers from the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan took part in the academic programme and presented the following papers:

• Mahfuza Zeynalova, Deputy Director for the Preservation and Registration of Museum Objects and Chief Curator, PhD in History, Associate Professor, presented a paper entitled “Materials from Mollaisagli in the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan”;
• Nasir Guluzade, Head of the Archaeological Collections Department, PhD in History, Associate Professor, delivered an online presentation entitled “The Archaeological Collection of Fazil Osmanov in the Context of Museum Archaeology”;
• Habiba Aliyeva, Senior Researcher at the Archaeological Collections Department, PhD in History, Associate Professor, presented a paper entitled “The Epigraphic Heritage of the Mosques of Basgal in Ancient Shirvan: Historical and Palaeographic Aspects”;
• Aida Ismayilova, Senior Researcher at the Archaeological Collections Department, PhD in History, presented “The Nuydi Helmet from the Period of Caucasian Albania: A Typological and Functional Analysis”;
• Aygun Mammadova, Senior Researcher at the Numismatics Collection, PhD in History, presented an online paper entitled “The Mystery of the Nuydi Coin Hoard Donated to the Museum by Archaeologist Fazil Osmanov”.

As part of the academic field excursion organized in Sulut, symposium participants explored the village’s rich historical and cultural heritage. The programme included visits to the Sulut Mosque, the traditional ice-storage facility known as Buzkhana, Harem Fortress, the Kalazeyva burial monuments, and Khan Fortress, as well as the house of the distinguished archaeologist Fazil Osmanov.
